A Newsletter! (please read)

Hello, Everyone!

Kaylen here with some announcements to keep you guys up to speed with my artistic journey, goals, and projects.  Summer has started for most people which mean summer jobs, summer school/ semesters, or vacation.  As I move into my third year of college, things are bound to get even busier than previous years; as a student, I will be more engrossed in my major courses and working towards graduation. I say this to say, I will continue to do my best to stay on top of my yearly resolutions and to keep posting regularly, but my availability and consistency may change depending on school, work, health, etc. Just wanted to say that little tidbit.

With that said however, enough about me and on with the announcements! This summer, I plan to launch a store where you guys can purchase prints and merchandise with my work on it. Wouldn’t it be cool to have a laptop decal designed by me? Or even a mug for the winter? Perhaps phone cases (maybe)?! I’m currently still looking for a decent portal to set things up, as well as suppliers for the merchandise; I have made some progress, so things should be up no later than August or September (hopefully sooner). All future proceeds will be greatly appreciated (especially my college fund), so if you have a favorite art piece that I’ve done and would like to see on merchandise, leave a comment or shoot an email at kaylen_harrington@sketchistudios.com. I have some ideas, but I do want to hear from my supporters. Let me know!

Now, my second announcement. This announcement/update has to do with the flashback series. After these next eight or so characters from the “Untitled” project, I will only have one last story to tell about. I’ve been a little iffy on this last story, mainly because of it’s “Twilight” story. Yes, I have characters/vampires that were influenced by the Twilight franchise (don’t judge, I am still not a fan of that book or movie series).  It’s actually a story that was inspired to overthrow the Twilight franchise and make it better. I was also influenced my love of Underworld, NBCs Dracula show (that was sadly canceled), my favorite book series Mortal Instrument’s series by Cassandra Clare and more. Anyhow, their series is upcoming and slated (hopefully) to begin in the falls close to October. They will be a part of my Inktober challenge this year. The series is called Masquerade, so look forward to that. It’s my most recent unfinished work that I hope to finish one day with decent artwork and writing. So, stay tuned for that.

So, to piggyback off the second announcement/ update, I move onto the main announcement. This third announcement is that I’m going to start a webcomic. This is a long-term project that won’t really start showing until next year or into 2019. Both the untitled series and the Masquerade Series will be precursors to two future webcomics/ visual novels. I really want to do a project from start fo finish that can be printed into a physical object or adapt into something bigger. When I was younger, I wanted to write a book; now that I’m older, I want to write and illustrate one. A webcomic or a visual novel is the way to go I think. I’m also thinking of creating a coloring book too–either way, it’s going to happen. This way, I will build my skills and have a tangible product by the end to show in my portfolio.  I want to start writing again and bringing my worlds to life. My stories haven’t been told and now it’s time to properly tell them. More will come when progress gets made so stay tuned to YouTube, Facebook, and all my other social media!

So far, my “untitled” project will stem into a new story called Heroes. This is not the official name, but it’s a start. I look forward to sharing more with you guys. More will come when progress gets made so stay tuned to YouTube, Facebook, and all my other social media!

One last thing I want to touch upon is this thing called Patreon.  For those who don’t know what is, or have heard of it but don’t quite know about it: Patreon is a way to get paid for creating the things you’re already creating (webcomics, videos, songs, whatevs). Fans pay a few bucks per month OR per post your release, and then you get paid every month, or every time you release something new. Many creators, musicians, inventors, educators, and artist use it and I’m thinking of starting one too. I haven’t decided when it will come to life, but I will post an announcement when it does.  To recap:

  1. Upcoming store
  2. OC Flashback series continues/ final original characters to appear in the fall. Hopefully, the series will end by December.
  3. Webcomic/ Visual Novel in the works.
  4. Patreon to happen. Need money for college, ahahaha.

That’s it for now folks. I hope this post was informative and excitable. I look forward to sharing more information in the future. I won’t be posting on the blog as much in the next few months, so look out on Facebook for more announcements if any. Talk to you guys soon!
